Year II to Magna Discovery Centre
On Thursday 7th October, Year 2 Travelled to Magna Science Adventure Centre at Rotherham. It used to be a steel works, and now is an interactive museum, to do with the making of steel. The first pavilion was named 'Fire', in this area we watched a demonstration where flat pieces of steel were heated and shaped into a variety of objects. We learnt a lot here and especially liked the fire tornado. The second pavilion was called 'Air'. There were many activities to do with air, particularly in the making of steel. We also managed to play a game of air hockey! The 3rd pavilion was called ‘Earth’. This was to do with the excavation and transportation of raw materials used in the blast furnace. We’re all expert digger drivers now!! The final pavilion was called ‘Water’. This was all about using water as a fuel, using steam and we also learnt about the pollution in our waterways and at sea. Finally we went to a “Who shot?” workshop where we became detectives for an hour using chromatography, finger printing and matching DNA samples to identify who the murderer was. It was a great day and we learnt a lot. Thank you to Mrs Morton, Mrs Gorton and Miss Rouse for taking us and organising the trip!
