Solar panels turn up the temperature in the lab

Year V physicists were set the challenge of designing and building their own solar panel. Armed with a box, foil, clingfilm, black paper, pipe and sellotape the girls had two hours to come up with a design, build it and make sure it worked. To add to the pressure students, grouped in pairs, were competing against one another to see who could build the best solar panel.

The results were very impressive. In second place Katie Ho and Zara Jibrilu's design heated water to a very respectable 52 degrees. But it was Harriet Foster and Lily Gurney with their 'top hat' design who were declared the winners - their solar panel heating the water to a staggering 59 degrees.

Congratulations to Harriet, Lily, Katie and Zara and to all of Year V for building some very impressive solar panels.
