The Autumn term at Queen Margaret’s School has seen a run of sporting successes. Across the board the standard of hockey, lacrosse and netball has been incredibly high, with first class performances from individuals as well as teams. In Lacrosse Queen Margaret’s dominated the North Schools’ Tournament with both the First and Second teams beating their opponents. Elsewhere in Lacrosse the First Team played Leeds University and gained a convincing win bringing the home side to their knees with a score of 17-5. It is little wonder then that fourteen of Queen Margaret’s students have been selected to play for the Under 15 Yorkshire Lacrosse A and B squads.
In other fields success has been prevalent on the hockey pitch with the Under Thirteen team beating Pocklington School 7-1 and the Under Thirteen A team winning their match against Scarborough College 13-2. The Under Fourteen A hockey side beat Hull Collegiate School 3-1 and the Under Fifteens had success against St. Peter’s School winning by a convincing 7-1. The Under Sixteens are through to the final of the North Schools’ Hockey Tournament which Director of Sport, Anne Davies, commented upon as ‘an excellent achievement for such a young side. I have high hopes for the tournament and for future competitions.’
In Netball Queen Margaret’s have achieved successes both locally and nationally. In the York and District National Schools competition QM’s Under Fourteen A team came a respectable 4th winning four of their matches. The Senior Netball team won the York and District Tournament and went on to represent York and District in the County Tournament. Closer to home QM’s Under Fourteen A team and the Under Twelve A team beat Queen Ethelburga’s School 19-9 and 11-0 respectively. Always wanting to take on a challenge the Queen Margaret’s Under Sixteen team took on Bradford Grammar School, a school known for its strong netball team. The QM side rose to the challenge triumphing 32-4 and showcasing some wonderful team playing.
With such a strong start to the academic year Queen Margaret’s sports stars are set to continuing scoring high in 2011.
