Buildings
QM was founded in Scarborough in 1901 by the Woodard Foundation and named in honour of Scotland’s only female saint. Following eventful years which included evacuation to Pitlochry during the First World War and Castle Howard during the Second, the school came to its current home in 1949.
In 1986 the school became independent of the Woodard Foundation and began a period of dramatic expansion, investing almost £10 million in new and improved facilities to create the superb learning and living environment enjoyed by pupils today.
Recent additions include the spectacular theatre and dance complex housed in the Centenary Building. A competition sized indoor swimming pool, superbly quipped Medical Centre and Art and Technology building as well as purpose-built senior boarding accommodation in Winifred Holtby House.

QM’s fabulous facilities are available to hire and the perfect venue for events ranging from sporting matches to dance shows, lectures to choral concerts.
