A number of different clubs and societies exist in school – some run by staff, others by girls.
Amnesty International
The Queen Margaret's Amnesty International group is officially attached to Amnesty International UK, a non-political organization which provides support for all activities. It is a vibrant society which adds to the girls' education by exploring issues of human rights that are not necessarily part of the normal curriculum. We have campaigned recently on Conflict Diamonds, the Arms Trade, Violence Against Women, Child Soldiers and issues surrounding terrorism and its impact on society to name but a few. We have a variety of activities which range from letter writing to raising awareness throughout the school, especially during 'Protect the Human Week' when we run assemblies and have displays in the main school. Girls are free to choose their own campaigns and are encouraged to really think about challenging issues. The group also works with the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme as many have chosen to use Amnesty for the Service component of the Award.
