Sixth Form Scientists Head to the Desert
This summer QM continued its association with Operation Wallacea with a two week expedition to Egypt. The girls and Head of Science Mr Hazlewood and Sister Crowther donned their hiking boots and sun hats spending a week in the Cairo desert. Accompanied by Whiskey the Camel the expedition tackled Mount Sinai and braved snakes, scorpions and spiders to complete field work at a University Science outpost. From the desert they travelled to the coast and swapped tents for hotel rooms and running water. The girls learnt about coral reef ecology and achieved their PADI scuba diving qualification.
A wonderful time was had by all and student Teresa Leeming summed up the two week expedition as a 'truly mind stretching and humbling experience due to the fact we were entirely separated from the tourist trail and were lucky enough to experience real, hard core travel!'
