Hockey is played during the autumn and spring terms. It is a compulsory part of the curriculum for girls in Years I to IV and can be continued as an option in Years V and VI. There is an extensive fixtures list which includes weekday fixtures against local schools as well as matches against other independent and state schools on Saturday afternoons. There are also inter-house matches for all year groups.
The school also enters teams in the following competitions:
National Schools Competition at U18, U16, U14, U13 mini tournament
York & District Tournaments at U18, U16, U15, U14, U13 and U12
Girls who are of a high enough standard are encouraged to attend District Trials and development coaching sessions. Many girls oftern progress through to JAC, with some reaching regional level.
In Years I-IV girls have one hour of hockey in their timetables and in Years V-UVI two hours. Girls are encouraged to attend accessible club hockey throughout the week in addition to their timetabled lessons.
QM girls of various ages regularly represent York & District and North Yorkshire and some of our better players have represented the North of England. In recent years a number girls have played at International level. QM's aim is to provide competition for all abilities and, therefore, we have a number of A,B,C, and D fixtures and inter school competitions throughout the year, ensuring every girl has a chance to play in a team.
