Burns Night Celebrations!
A man may drink, and no be drunk;
A man may fight, and no be slain;
A man may kiss a bonnie lass,
And aye be welcome back again!
Robert Burns
We were delighted to invite the lovely Sedbergh lads back for another QM Burns Night which was, as all Burns Nights are, a huge amount of fun. However with the QM spin on things the night was sure to be a really good laugh. So with the sound of the gravel crunching outside the main entrance, the excitement heightened as we, the Upper Sixth, knew that our Sedbergh guests had arrived. With a final flick of the hair we glided outside to meet and greet the laddies. Thankfully our rusty small talk was not needed as our guests were the definition of charming, perhaps a tad too charming for some! But it was nice to hear that the conversation generally did not linger on UCAS applications and branched out to more socially advanced topics such as, current affairs, football and Ampleforth. So with the sound of the bagpipes leading the haggis in, we all sat down to eat a lavish three course meal complete with traditional neeps and tatties. Then came the speeches. And in typical Robert Burns fashion, they raised many a laugh as well as some eyebrows too! With the night coming to the end, all that was left to do was to reel. Two hours and a few dead arms from too much spinning later, both the laddies and the lassies retired after what was a fabulous night of light-hearted Scottish relief and some good old fashion fun. We very much hope to see Sedbergh back again to have another cracking Burns Night next year!
