QM play tournament at Ampleforth College

On Wednesday the 28th September, 10 girls from the 1st XI hockey squad travelled to Ampleforth College to play in their annual 7-a-side tournament.  The competition was tough but we arrived with a positive mindset and got stuck into our first game against Hull Collegiate and we drew 0-0.  Our second match was against St Peter's school and with a history of extreme rivalry, this was the match to win however we came out with a draw of 2-2.  This was a closely fought match and all members of the team played well.  The last match in our group was against Durham school and unfortunately the heat got the better of us as we began to flag and we lost 1-0.  We went through to the plate semi finals to play Scarborough College, this was a tense match and the outcome was a draw of 2-2 which meant there had to be a decider of sudden death flicks.  With Scarborough missing their first shot due to an awesome save by our goalkeeper Beth Worrall, the pressure was on and Lottie Williams flicked us a goal and we were through to the plate final.  The final saw us play Sedbergh and a draw of 1-1 meant the decider would again be sudden death flicks, however this time we weren't so lucky and sadly we narrowly lost.  The entire team played extremely well despite the hot weather and it has put us in good stead for Monday's National Schools tournament.
