You Are What You Wear

Personal and Corporate Stylist Liz Clothier teaches QM girls how to dress for success.

Did you know that you form an opinion of someone in the first 7 seconds of meeting them, and 55% of that first impression is based on what you wear? Don’t worry, neither did we. However that was not the only interesting nugget of information we learned in Liz Clothier’s enlightening ‘You Are What You Wear’ lecture.

A lecture provoked by the on going discussion of Sixth Form dress as well as opportunities for work experience and interviews on the horizon. So we, the Upper School, were given a few tips on what not to wear for a crucial interview: our onesies to start off with as well as a definite no to unbrushed hair which does occasionally occur at QM! As well as some cracking suggestions on staple pieces that would surpass the wackiest of fashion trends, we learned how to dress for occasion depending on body shape. A vital piece of information especially when I know that the Upper Sixth are certainly starting to think about Speech Day outfits!

We certainly are grateful for Liz Clothier’s superb talk on dressing appropriately which stressed the delicate balance between individuality and conformity which must be struck in order to make that great 7 second impression and therefore be confident and successful in whatever career we choose in the future.
