Head Girl's Perspective
Miranda Wallace, third from the left, Head Girl 2010-2011

Miranda Wallace - Head Girl 2010-2011

With just one school year left and with the distant dream of University slowly becoming a reality, I have only just started to realise and appreciate how lucky I have been to attend Queen Margaret's School.

Arriving at Red House in first year, having been at a small day school in Ilkley, the jump to boarding at QM was going to be a large and rather daunting leap into the unknown. For any of you who have been to QM and seen Red House, you will realise my fears were completely unfounded and there was really nothing to worry about.
My School life involves sports matches, orchestra, choir, music lessons, riding and tennis to name a few, all of which has given me the independence that has allowed me to grow as an individual.

From Red House we moved to Winifred Holtby House or ‘Winnies’ as it is more commonly called, our much beloved home in the Fifth Year. Itsset back location close to the squash and tennis courts provided us not only excellent access to stress relief facilities, but also to silence and a sense of calm in which to study. By Lower Sixth, I was back in the hub of the school in Cloisters, and with added freedom, activities and opportunities such as QMPT, D of E, and City and Guilds the first year of the sixth form seemed to finish as soon as it had begun.

I look forward to my final year at QM and I am sure the end of it will be met with mixed feelings of sadness, gratitude, nail biting nervousness, and excitement.

Whether your daughters’ strengths rest in sport, music, academia, drama, art, or maybe all of the above, QM is not only the perfect place to harness and develop these skills, but also to discover new talents through the endless chances given.

When asked to write down my take on QM life I struggled to start; how could I fit six busy years into a few paragraphs? All that needs be said is this; when I was younger I used to wish the days by, now, faced with just one more school year left on the clock, I find myself clinging on to every precious moment left.
